Today, the Ministry of Agriculture and Foods has seen the foundation of a scientific council on agriculture with the Minister of Agriculture and Foods. Chairman of the council was elected to be Academician Atanas Atanassov, director of the AgroBioInstitute with the Agriculture Academy, and deputy chairman is senior assistant Dr. Eng. Martin Banov, associate in the Soil Sciences Institute after the name of Nikola Pushkarov.

On 9 May 2008, at 9:30, during a checkup of the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water in the city of Razgrad, at a former canning factory in the town of Loznitsa, district of Razgrad, a signal was sent that the factory keeps some meat. The factory is not registered under the Veterinary Medical Activities Act. The Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water in the city of Razgrad has urgently launched a check-up into the entire factory along with the competent authorities of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in the city of Razgrad, the National Veterinary Medical Service and Economic Police forcefully opened the storehouse rooms.

The Minister of Agriculture and Foods Valeri Tsvetanov has reminded that the term for submitting the general application for single area payments by farmer ends on 15 May 2008. After this deadline, per each day of delay, there shall be a sanction of 1% deduction from the size of the subsidy.
